Yurt Holiday in Wales

We had a lovely five days in Wales staying in our very first yurt. We are definitely converted to this type of holiday and will look for more yurt holidays in and about the UK. The site had 3 yurts and 3 tipis, and our family of six fitted comfortably into one of the yurts. The location was set in beautiful woodlands, and is was nice to feel relaxed about the children running around and exploring the woodlands by themselves.

The first day we went into the local market town to get food for the holiday, and then came home and spent the day around the site - the children explored the woodlands and rode their bikes all day. The second day we went into the Forest of Dean which was a huge forest not too far away and had a walk and lunch. The third day we went for a boat cruise on the Wye River, and then went up a mountain to Yat rock which was a wonderful view point and offered the most spectacular views down into the valley and river down below. This was a highlight of our trip as they had telescopes set up to look at a pair of peregrine falcons on the surrounding cliff, the male was in the nest and the female had flown off to hunt. It was a great place for birdwatching and we had blue tits, nut hatches and coal tits landing right next to us, and we all sighted a buzzard (with the binoculars) gliding above the forest down below in search of food. Unfortunately we forgot our camera that day, and so could not take any pictures of the views. We had loads of fun driving around in the beautiful surroundings and listening to recordings of Narnia and King Arthur in the car. And building a fire every night and reading Narnia around the campfire whilst roasting marshmallows was great. All in all a very relaxed week, and much needed for Dad.

The inside of the yurts were very comfortable, spacious and cosy. There is a woodburning stove inside which kept us lovely and warm at night, and early morning.

We enjoyed a braai every night in the outdoor firepit, it was very relaxing to spend each night by the fire reading Narnia.
