Field trip to the Tropical Zoo
We are still studying reptiles, and even though they missed out at the London Zoo, we were able to see some reptiles at our local Tropical Zoo.
The first thing we saw were these cute terrapins, Eden wanted to touch them and got a nip on the finger for her affections.
There was a great display with piranhas and turtles, and some scary looking huge catfish. Ayla was a bit too scared to go too close, I love her reflection in the glass.

An all time attraction for Eden was this chameleon. She is so fond of hearing me telling the stories of how her Uncle Grant used to find so many of them when we lived in Zimbabwe. He always seemed to have such a keen eye for them compared to the rest of us. I have such distinct memories of him regularly having a chameleon on his arm. It is amazing as how a child we took them for granted, Eden would go nuts if she found one in our garden.
We were fortunate that they arranged a viewing session for the children. We were there in school hours so it was quite deserted, which was fantastic as the children were able to hold all of the creatures.
Eden was totally in her element. She dreams of having herself surrounded by snakes, spiders, insects and lizards just like this.
Niamh holding a tarantula.
Ciara surprised me by wanting to hold everything too.
They were all enthralled.
Another absolute favourite of Eden is the bearded dragon.
Eden and Niamh's friend Scarlett was with us and also had a great time. This was a leopard gecko.
And a proud looking water dragon.
Bearded dragon.
And then out came the snakes, this one is a python.
And my personal favourite, a tiny likkle tortoise.
Jude was surprised at how heavy the snake was.
Ciara said that the snake was just lovely.
Niamh and Scarlett.
Ayla followed this tortoise around everywhere, and everytime it stopped she got behind it and tried to push it along. During the day we also saw a caiman and Nile crocodile which was incredible to see after learning so much about them.

Oh no, can't take the pics of the kids holding the python, but love the other ones, specially the little tortoise.
They are certainly braver than their nana she does not like snakes and spiders.....
