Our Niamh is 8!

Niamh was planning to have a swimming party for her birthday, and so we invited all her friends to join her for a swim at an adventure type indoor swimming centre. She was so disappointed when one by one they all cancelled or could not commit to coming for numerous reasons, perhaps because it was half term school break. Eventually it was just her best friend Simone who was going to come. In all of this Niamh learned a good lesson from the Lord - all things work together for the good - what we thought was a bad thing(not all her friends coming) turned out to be the best scenario because after they came back from a lovely time at the pools, Ciara started throwing up, shortly followed by Jude. Simone ended up catching the tummy bug from us, but thankfully we didn't have lots of girls taking the bug home to all their families too. The Lord allowed her best friend to spend the day with her, and yet protected all the other girls from getting sick. Boy were we thankful for that.

Niamh asked for a violin cake for her birthday last year, but since Ayla had just been born, I did not think we would be able to manage to make it for her. So last year I told her we cannot make it, and I think she just thought we would not be able to make a violin cake because it would be too difficult(in fact I was thinking the same thing last year). But this year after looking into it a few months ago(that always helps the planning), I thought we should have a go at it. Niamh asked for a crotchet cake this year(not crochet), and so we thought we would just leave it for a surprise.
Getting the shape was really easy, and thanks to a friend who gave me the idea to use marshmallow fondant, I had a go with it and it was really easy. Michael thoroughly enjoyed getting into the artistic side of it, and he achieved the lovely wood effect.
And he cut out all the elements like finger board, and chin rest.

The scroll was made from moldable belgian chocolate, specifically for creating figures out of chocolate, it worked really well.
