Saturday was an overcast and miserable day - perfect conditions for museum visiting. Milestones Museum is built in a huge hangar and is a life sized section of a Victorian street setting. The vehicles and buildings and shops were as they looked in Victorian times, so gave the children a wonderful feel for what it would be like to walk down Victorian roads.
Steam powered vehicles.
The Cast Iron exhibition. The Industrial Revolution has been a source of many conversations with our children as they are faced with the good and evil that came about in this era, the good been the progress, but the bad been the exploitation of children and the poor in factories and mines.
Blacksmiths at work with the metal.
Many of the poor would sell their wares in the street, this is a poor boy selling boxes of matches.

The Steam locomotive and horse drawn carriages.
Ciara's favourite part was dressing up - they had a dress up section with rich and poor Victorian clothes.
Niamh enjoyed dressing up too.
We then headed over to the diner to have coffee and ice cream, it was quite strange that the decor of the restaurant was 1950's - we thought a Victorian restaurant would've been better.
Michael wanted me to upload this pic because he says this personifies me, sipping away at a cup of coffee.
It was a lovely day, and we so enjoy spending time together like this as a family.
Little Ayla, still not sure if those eyes are going to be blue or are going to change to brown, I'm starting to pick up colours in them that are not blue so more than likely they will change.
Daddy was tickling Ayla and getting lots of lovely giggles.

Hi all,
Looks as if it was an interesting visit, I'm sure the kids enjoyed every minuet of it. Loved the pic of Niamh and Ciara dressed up, also the ones of you Fi.
Ayla has grown so much, changing all the time.
