Old friends visiting!

By sheer providence I was driving down our old road to pick Jude and Ciara up from their Aunt Lana and who should be walking down the road, but our old neighbours. They moved to Ethiopia to serve as missionaries a few years ago, and we last saw them two years ago when they were last in the UK, but were not aware they were here again. So it was a wonderful surprise to bump into them like that, and we soon arranged for them to come over on Saturday.

It was great catching up on all they are involved in, and it is amazing to hear how fluent they are in Amharic, one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn (in fact Jonathan can even preach in it). Sara is a midwife so was interested in hearing about our freebirths, and the children enjoyed playing together. It was amazing for me to hear how rural their lives are. Sara has homeschooled her children, yet she does not have internet access, or libraries. Simple things like buying her children clothes is not possible, so all their clothes shopping must be done in the UK while they are here. Only last year they got mobile phone reception in their compound, and when we asked about the world cup they said they saw a few games when the power was not cut, wow we take so much for granted.

Their other two children, Alice and Rosie. Alice can speak quite a bit of Amharic too from having native friends.
