It was with a lot of sadness that Ruby passed away on Friday night. It would've been a lot easier on the children if it had been natural causes, but she had got out of her cage, and managed to get down all the stairs and went out the backdoor. She spent the night outdoors, and it was a shock to find her dead on the lawn outside. She was 20 months old, so was probably nearing the end of her life anyway, but it came as a shock for the children, and many tears were shed throughout the day.
We thought it would make it a lot easier on the children if we let them choose a new hamster. This is the hamster Niamh chose, she is 8 weeks old and seems to have a lovely nature - Niamh has called her Crystal. Ruby bit many times before she got tame, but Crystal shows not signs of biting.
