We joined our school group today for an outing to HCP. They are celebrating the 500th anniversary of King Henry VIII’s coronation, so there was a lot happening in and around the palaces with all of his wives dressed up in full costume as well as Henry the 8th walking around the palace all day. We saw a few of his wives but never saw the King.

Most of the artwork was not painting, but elaborate tapestries interwoven with real gold and silver which would've shimmered in the candlelight, this was the most popular form of art in Tudor times.
Eden attended a music session, and was led through all the instruments that were played in Tudor times, she thoroughly enjoyed it. Afterwards we met up together in the Rose garden for a picnic and all the children played some great games together.
Niamh got really excited about this tree because the leaves were so different from any we had seen before. Fortunately I had brought the tree identification book along, so we looked it up straight away, Niamh ran back to the tree to check if the fruit was the same as in the book too, and so we found out it was a Dawn Redwood. It was so lovely to see how excited she was to find out what it was, and she had pulled two other young girls into the experience too. We picked some leaves and a fruit for her nature book. She is determined to get all of the trees around our area in her book. Needless to say our flower press is full to the brim.
