Dad woke up on Sunday to a nice surprise of cards, and chocolates and his favourite sweets from the children.

The following day Niamh got stuck into making another Chinese speciality - sweet potato balls. She is really good at following a recipe by herself and doing everything. This was quite nice as it was something she had never done before, deep frying the balls like doughnuts.

The finished product, sweet, sweet potato balls covered in sesame seeds.

And we all enjoyed them that night with sweet and sour chicken. The children also asked for millet as this was the staple food of the Chinese in North China where it is too cold to grow rice, so a new food for them.

One of the best treats of summer has to be fresh (cheaper) cherries, and we all enjoy them so much, and for Ayla this was a first experience.

Niamh how wonderful to see you cooking so well. Those sweet potato balls look delicious.
I also love the cherries you get in London, so nice and fresh.
Enjoy your study of China.
When you have finished all the countries I am going to ask you which food did you like the most.
