Brooklands Transport Museum Part 1

Snow in Scotland gave us a very cold start to the day today, but outside the world looked beautiful - crystal blue skies and a lovely freshness. The children were so excited about this fieldtrip, and loved the prospect of getting on aeroplanes. Eden was 2 when Concorde stopped flying, but she well remembers it as its 11am flight path went right by our house in Hampton. We would run outside nearly every day to watch it, and have it on film(need to find this footage with Eden who used to get so excited she would shake all over). She also remembers how her Grandad would take her outside went it flew by.

Not build for large people or tall for that matter, I had to duck to walk in. And we heard tell that Luciano Pavarotti was turned away when he was due to board, he just would not have fitted. This concorde is apparently the last one with the seats still in.

We entered through the back and exited out the front, children feeling chilly.
Next up was a tour inside a Sultan's aeroplane, the Sultan of Oman. The first plane we have ever seen with two bedrooms in with full sized double beds.
And a tour around the Flight Controls, trust Niamh to ask what each button and lever does.
Next up a chat about the women race drivers of the Brooklands racing heyday. Eden trying on their racing helmet, a lot of the racers rooms were on display.
One of their oldest cars, a horse drawn cart which was modified into a car.
Jude looooved looking at this one, it has a huge engine and reached speeds of 200mph.
And then much excitement as they got to sit in a real Formula 1 racing car. This one was driven by Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger.
The little children disappeared down into it, so had to prop themselves up for a photo.
And then onto the Formula 1 simulator. Eden and I got to have a lap "around the Brooklands track", I was impressed that Eden only crashed once, she loved it.
Intense concentration.
And around she goes.
