My birthday, an unexpected outing! - Part 1

Michael surprised me by taking the day off for my birthday, which made an already long weekend extra long. I did feel a bit like we had to all go out for the day because Michael had taken the day off, but wasn't sure what to do. Fortunately at our neighbourhood braai, Wisley Gardens had come up in conversation, and they all recommended it as a lovely place to go. It is really easy to get to, so we set off after Ayla had her morning nap.
We had no idea what to expect and in this case it left us open for some lovely surprises in the day. It was a spectacularly beautiful place, very different to Kew Gardens.

So many different landscapes to appreciate. The children had an amazing time.

The children loved the diversity of plants, here is a carnivorous pitcher plant, we could see the insects that had been trapped.
